The District of Sicamous received notice that no construction work is scheduled to take place on Highway 1 or Highway 97A (alternate route) over the Thanksgiving long weekend (noon on October 11 to noon on October 15).

Highway 1 (Bruhn Bridge)

  • At this time, we have received information that Highway 1 full closures will not begin in October, although residents may observe some activity as the crew prepares the site.
  • The project management team and contractor have submitted their construction schedule and traffic management plan to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for approval.
  • Once this has been approved, we will have more detailed information to share regarding construction and any resulting road closures.

Highway 97A (Alternate Route)

  • The resurfacing of the alternate route, Highway 97A, is ongoing.
  • Final paving is scheduled to be completed in early November, weather permitting.
  • The traffic signal at the intersection of Highway 97A and Highway 97B is operating.

The best way to receive real-time information on the status of highways in British Columbia is DriveBC. This includes information on full closures, lane closures or single-lane alternating traffic. Another important resource is the Ministry of Transportation's project website.

We are committed to sharing information with you regarding this project. We are coordinating with the parties involved in the R.W. Bruhn Bridge Replacement Project to ensure that the information needs of Sicamous residents are considered during this major project.

Stay tuned for further updates.
