Outdoor burning of yard waste is permitted from October 16 to October 31, 2024.
Outdoor Burning Bylaw No. 452, 2002 ensures the safety and health of our community during periods of outdoor burning. Within the District of Sicamous, the outdoor burning of yard waste is allowed during the first two weeks of April and the last two weeks of October.
If you are planning on burning yard waste this October, please remember the following:
- Fires must not be more than one metre in diameter or exceed one metre in height.
- Burning barrels must be equipped with a spark arrestor to prevent the emission of sparks and ash.
- Fires must be continuously controlled and supervised by a competent person.
- To prevent your yard waste from smoking, start your fire with a clean, seasoned wood to ensure a hot fire. Add small amounts of damp materials periodically to keep it hot.
Please note that the Outdoor Burning Bylaw is subject to provincial fire bans and restrictions. As of October 15, 2024, there are no open burning prohibitions in effect in the Kamloops Fire Centre.
For any inquiries, please contact fire chief Lorenzo De Arcangelis at 250-836-2271 or our bylaw enforcement officer at 250-833-6952 or bylaw@sicamous.ca.
