Thank you to everyone who attended the Main Street Housing Open House & Public Information Session!

Yesterday, the District of Sicamous hosted an open house to share information on housing projects on Main Street. Staff and council members were joined by representatives from Hausen Projects Inc. and Western Canadian Properties Group Ltd. More than 50 people attended the event!

As mentioned on our Sicamous Housing Projects webpage, "housing is essential to the health and wellness of any community." The turnout at yesterday's open house demonstrated our community's commitment to establishing housing options that suit the needs of current and future residents.

The main focus of the open house was a public information session on the five-storey, mixed-use 55-unit rental development that will begin construction at 425 Main Street in the next four to six weeks. The developer, Western Canadian Properties Group Ltd. (WCPG), provided poster boards outlining their project, including floor plans and building renderings. A representative from WCPG attended to answer questions and share information about the development.

A poster board with an aerial view of 425 Main Street and 316 Gordon Munro Lane was provided by the District of Sicamous. Chief administrative officer Kelly Bennett attended the open house to share information on how the district has leveraged land to create housing opportunities in Sicamous.

Final public input was collected for the pre-approved library of secondary dwelling unit plans at the open house. Based on public input results, Council will choose three designs from each of the two firms (McDiarmid Construction Ltd. and Hausen Projects Inc.) who provided secondary dwelling unit plans. The district's development services manager and building official were in attendance, as well as a representative from Hausen Projects. Together, they were able to answer questions about secondary dwelling units and the pre-approved plan library.
