Application Requirements

  • A driveway of 7 metres (23 feet) maximum in width shall normally be permitted for residential areas. A driveway of 14 metres (46 feet) maximum in width shall normally be permitted for an industrial site. Industrial sites may have one or two driveways permitted.
  • All driveways shall meet municipal specifications. For example, culvert ends must be sandbagged or otherwise properly protected.
  • Prepare and submit a drawing showing the proposed location of the driveway. This includes measurements from the property line, utility pole, etc.
  • Operations will inspect the location and determine the required culvert size before approval is given.
  • With the approval of the operations designate, a driveway may be installed by the property owner or his contractor working under the conditions of this application.

Owner's Responsibility

  • Notification in writing must be given to the district at least seven clear days prior to commencing construction.
  • To prevent the tracking of mud and soil onto the street, the driveway shall be graveled to an extent satisfactory to the operations designate.
  • Any mud, soil, debris or other foreign material tracked onto the street from the access shall be removed by the owner at the owner’s expense.
  • The access or accesses, if applicable, shall be constructed with 300 millimetre (12 inch) CSP pipe manufactured to CSA or ASTM standards with 300 millimetres of cover and designed for an H-20 load rating. Maintenance and periodic cleaning of the culvert is the responsibility of the property owner.
  • The driveway must be installed in accordance with district specifications.
  • Failure to complete construction of approved driveway access within 2 years of this permit application date shall render the permit void.
  • The profile of the access or accesses shall not exceed 5% grade from the ditch line for a distance of at least 6 metres as measured away from the roadway along the centerline of access.
  • The layout shown on the drawing is a condition of this permit. Any change in layout without the prior consent in writing of the district shall render the permit void.
  • During construction, the safety of the travelling public must, at all times, be recognized and the required traffic control is the responsibility of the owner to the satisfaction of the operations designate.
  • The owner shall, at all times, accept full responsibility for any accident that may occur or damage that may be done to any property whatsoever caused directly or indirectly by the said works. The owner and shall save harmless and keep indemnified the Crown and the District of Sicamous from all claims and demands.
