Lieutenant Craig Ludman has spent over five years with Sicamous Fire Rescue, bringing his dedication and leadership to the department and the community he now calls home. For him, firefighting is more than a role – it’s a meaningful way to serve his community.

“Being in a uniformed service has been a common drive and inspiration for most of my life,” shares Ludman. “After moving to Canada and choosing Sicamous, it only felt right to serve the town I now call home.”

Recently promoted to the role of lieutenant, Ludman provides leadership to small tactical teams during emergencies. Outside of emergency response, Ludman also contributes to Sicamous Fire Rescue communications efforts and assists with payroll.

Ludman has a vision for strengthening teamwork among local emergency services. In November 2024, he co-facilitated a multi-agency training exercise that brought teams from Sicamous and surrounding areas together in a simulated an emergency. The event enhanced collaboration and preparedness across organizations.

When asked about the qualities that are most essential to his role, Ludman shared that personal fitness and firefighting basics done well are imperative to success at Sicamous Fire Rescue.

“I believe a leader should be a dependable role model to those under their command and be an asset, rather than a liability, to those above and below them in the chain of command,” says Ludman.

Outside of the firehall, Ludman brings his expertise to industrial fire and rescue operations in the oil and gas sector. With his remaining free time, Ludman can be found hiking, canoeing and exploring or planning his next adventure to the summit of a mountain.

If you see Lieutenant Ludman around the firehall, be sure to say hello!
