Sicamous is gearing up for an exciting new outdoor recreation opportunity with the development of the Owlhead Mountain Bike Park. As the first dedicated mountain biking area in our community, this project aims to provide a high-quality trail system for riders of all skill levels, enhancing Sicamous’ reputation as an outdoor adventure destination.
The first phase of the Owlhead Mountain Bike Park is well underway, with one up track and one down track already 80 per cent roughed in. The final rough-in is set to take place this spring, followed by finishing work to ensure the trails are safe and ready for riders. Weather conditions and construction scheduling will determine the exact timeline, but we are optimistic that Phase 1 will be ridable by summer 2025.
In January 2025, the Shuswap Trail Alliance was the proud recipient of a Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan) grant.
The grant provided $190k in funding for eight projects within the Shuswap, with $117,300 allocated towards funding 65 per cent of the first phase of development at the Owlhead Mountain Bike Park.
The District of Sicamous is very grateful for the collaboration of Shuswap Trail Alliance, who continue to work to bring this project to life.
While work continues on Phase 1, plans for Phase 2 are already in motion. This next stage will see the expansion of the up track and the addition of multiple down tracks, offering more variety and challenges for riders. Progress on Phase 2 will depend on securing provincial approvals, but the goal is to begin construction later this year.
The long-term vision for the park includes a diverse trail network that will attract both locals and visitors, further boosting tourism and outdoor recreation opportunities in Sicamous.
