September 24, 2024 - At the September 11 regular council meeting, District of Sicamous Councillor Bob Evans was presented with King Charles III's Coronation Medal.
“As we know, in our communities, there are some individuals that go above and beyond and do an amazing amount of work that largely goes unrecognized,” said MLA Greg Kyllo as he introduced the medal. "It is my distinct honour and privilege to be here to present the King’s Coronation medal to an individual who I think we in this community know incredibly well, and who has done a lot of amazing work, especially with our youth, and that is Bob Evans.”
The King Charles III's Coronation Medal is presented to those who have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada.
"This is a beautiful town, and we are all privileged to serve it," said Evans. "Our youth is the next generation, and we should be pouring everything we can into them."
Evans moved to Sicamous in 2008 to start the Sicamous branch of the Shuswap Community Church. In his early years in Sicamous, he served as parent advisory council president for Parkview Elementary School and Eagle River Secondary School. In 2010, Evans started The Hub Youth Centre, which he describes as "a place for youth to belong." Evans was also instrumental in the introduction of free counselling a The Hub and is involved in “Kids Zone” at Parkview Elementary School.
The District of Sicamous wishes Councillor Evans sincere congratulations for this recognition.
