2025 Budget

Budget season is here, and staff are hard at work preparing for select finance committee meetings.

We’d like to share some information about the budgeting process and how you can make your preferences known for the 2025 budget.

Each year, the District of Sicamous Council adopts a five-year financial plan to allocate resources for services and infrastructure.

The Five-Year Financial Plan Bylaw is an annual requirement of the Local Government Act and the Community Charter. Municipalities must adopt their financial plans before adopting the annual tax rate bylaws on May 15 of each year.

Municipalities generate revenue from:

  • Property Taxes – the largest funding source.
  • User Fees – payments for utilities, recreation programs and other services.
  • Grants – funding from provincial or federal governments.
  • Borrowing – loans for major infrastructure projects.

The select finance committee includes all of council. This year, Councillor Rich is the chair of the committee. The committee attends a series of meetings to discuss and make decisions for the 2025 budget.

The public is invited to attend all select finance committee meetings. This is an opportunity for residents to speak to council and have their preferences heard regarding the budget.
